J.Cole pairs lyrics of his ascent to greatness in the hip-hop industry from his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina with snappy kicks and quick claps on the beat. The song displays a confident and braggadocious Cole. This might not be a surprise to fans, as Cole has been implying that The Off-Season has been in the works for a while and is something Cole is extremely confident about. Examples include the LA Leakers Freestyle from May 2021 and a recent documentary posted on YouTube documenting his mindset creating The Off-Season.
